Mtarfa F.C. is a football club from the small locality of Imtarfa, the home of a former British forces barracks area. The area holds various historical landmarks including; the barracks, the clock tower and the military hospital, better known as David Bruce Hospital. The football club was founded in 2006, and took part for the first time in history in the 2007/08 MFA National League in the Third Division.
The idea to create a new football club under the name of Mtarfa F.C. originated from a small group of football enthusiasts. In fact, it was founded by Mr. Joseph Vassallo at that time president of the club and also the founder of the club. Mr. Vassallo worked together with a group of people in order to form the club then the same people became members of the first committee ever in the club's history.
The Mtarfa F.C. football kit is well-known for its Yellow and Green striped shirt which resembles the flag of the locality itself - Imtarfa. The Yellow and Green are used in the 1st gear that is used for home matches whilst for the second gear the white and blue coloured kit is used. The second gear resembles both an innovative feature whilst also using the same colours that identifies the Mtarfa locality flag. After coming up with the kit, the committee thought of coming up with a logo but the administration decided that the logo should be chosen through a public competition. In fact, the public had the opportunity to send their designs to the club administration. The logo chosen was that of Mr. Joseph Galea that won the competition thus, his design was chosen which then has been vital in identifying the club. Mtarfa F.C then asked Mr. Joseph Mifsud to compose an anthem for the club which would help in creating an identity for the club itself.
In 2007 the club was recognised and affiliated with the Malta Football Association for the first time in its history and was given the right to compete in the Malta National Third Division League. The first coach for the Mtarfa F.C senior team was Mr. Joe Born and the inauguration match for the club was against Melita F.C.
Eventually, Mtarfa F.C. started growing in numbers both in terms of youths and also adult players. The demand kept increasing and with the limited resources that the club holds something had to be done to maintain the growth but at the same time strengthening the structure. This is why an Mtarfa Youth Nursery was established in order to occupy the role of developing youths and young kids to the mother club - Mtarfa F.C. In this way the Academy at that time known as the Youth Nursery could manage the development whilst the mother club could focus its strength on the senior team and the minors team (U/19). The Mtarfa Youth Nursery was founded by Joseph Vassallo, Ian Sansone and Paul Mifsud that formed the first committee.
Mtarfa F.C. then achieved its first artificial synthetic training ground located near Dar il-Kaptan and within the ex David Bruce British Hospital premises. Nowadays. the football club is still growing, in fact, it recently opened its club house located in the Imtarfa square which is considered to be another step forward towards a better future. Yet, the road is still long but at the same time the future seems bright thus the Mtarfa FCYN could possibly achieve its goals in the near future together with you being part of our family.
